C- and C:  What counts where?

Biology majors must earn a grade of C or better in all Biology core classes (LIFE 120/120L, LIFE 121/121L, BIOS 205, BIOS 206, and BIOS 207) and in any Biology electives taken to fulfill the 18 hr Biology elective requirement of the major.  If you earn a C- or below in any of the core courses, you must re-take that particular course.  If you earn a C- or below in Biology electives taken to fulfill Biology elective requirements of the major, you must either re-take the course, or you may choose to take a different course.  For example, if you earn a C- in BIOS 314, you must either retake the course or take a different BIOS elective to count toward your major.  The C- elective credit would count toward your degree, but not toward the requirements of the BIOS major.

What about the required Ancillary courses?

You do not need to retake any ancillary course in which you earn a grade of C- or lower for the purpose of fulfilling the requirements of the Biology major.  For example, if you earn a C- or lower in Physics 142, you need not retake the course.  It will still meet the requirements of the major.  This is true for all ancillary course requirements. However, you must earn a C or better to continue in sequential courses (eg. C or better in CHEM 109 to take CHEM 110, etc.)

Grade Issues

If you have questions about a grade in a course, be it on an assignment, exam, or lab report your first point of contact is always the professor of your course.

Grade Appeal Procedures

Incompletes

A grade of “I” is given to a student by the instructor only under certain exceptional conditions such as the following:  a student is unable to complete the work in the course due to illness, military service, hardship, or death in the immediate family.

Incompletes are only to be given when the majority of the work in the class is completed. To remove incomplete arrangements must be made with the instructor who taught the course. The absolute limit to complete an incomplete grade is 2 years, however, the timeline a student must abide by is one that has been agreed to by the student and the course instructor.  Do not enroll in an incomplete class again! If you do so, you will be required to pay tuition for the course again.

Pass/No Pass

No Biological science course, except for Bios 310, used to fulfill the 36 hrs for the major (and 18 hours for the minor) may be taken Pass/No Pass (P/N)  This includes Bios 395 (internship).
