This page provides general tips and some requirements specific to the SBS Undergraduate Research Symposium but you should follow any discipline-specific guidelines when developing your poster presentation. You should work closely with your advisor or mentor when developing your poster and presentation. Students presenting at the UNL Research Fair are encouraged to submit and present their work at the symposium.

POSTER AND PRESENTATION FORMAT

Students need to bring a printed poster to the event, no larger than 40 x 48 inches. There are numerous programs and tools for developing a poster that provides the essential details of your project (e.g. PowerPoint, Publisher, Prezi, etc.). You will be required to submit a PDF of your poster image by April 4th for display on the symposium website. Each student or group of students will need to plan and prepare a 3-5 minute presentation of their poster and research project to be presented during the symposium. Each student or group of students will bring their printed poster to the symposium. Please prepare a short (3-5 minute) presentation of your poster to be shared with attendees that visit your poster during the symposium. The symposium will be separated into separate mini-sessions.  Students will stand next to their poster throughout their assigned session to share about their research and answer questions. Then they will have the opportunity to circulate and visit other posters during the other mini-sessions. More information about your assigned session time will be provided via email.

Your poster and presentation should cover the essentials:

  1. Problem description and challenges
  2. Approach/method
  3. Results and evaluation
  4. Conclusion
