INBRE Scholar Program

INBRE

Are you a UNL student interested in a research career in the biomedical sciences? Apply to be an INBRE scholar and participate in a two-year NIH-Funded Research Program, including a summer research experience at UNMC or Creighton University.

Eligibility

  1. Career interest in biomedical research -- The program is not recruiting students whose primary interest is pursuing a medical profession (e.g., a medical degree).
  2. Intention to remain at UNL for the duration of the two year program (i.e., current sophomores on a four-year degree plan or current juniors on a five-year degree plan).

Program Components

  • First summer:
    • Conduct full-time research for 10 weeks at UNMC or Creighton
    • Attend weekly research and career development workshops
    • Present at INBRE conference in Nebraska City
  • First academic year:
    • Conduct research for 10 hours per week in a UNL lab
    • Attend monthly book clubs and networking events
    • Present at Nebraska Academy of Sciences meeting
  • Second summer:
    • Continue full-time research for 10 weeks in a UNL lab
    • Present at INBRE conference in Nebraska City
  • Second academic year:
    • Conduct research for 10 hours per week in a UNL lab
    • Attend monthly book clubs and networking events
    • Present at Nebraska Academy of Sciences meeting

Benefits

  • Two full years (including summers) of research funding
  • Year 1 - $4,000 + housing for summer; $4,000 for academic year; $1,500 for research supplies
  • Year 2 - $4,500 + housing for summer; $4,000 for academic year; $1,500 for research supplies
  • Research experience in Omaha or Lincoln in the first summer and opportunity to continue projects through graduation

  1. Submit an INBRE Application in pdf format
  2. Statement of research interest and career goals
  3. One letter of support (references need to email Dr. Couch directly)
