Record 8 faculty named AAAS fellows

A campus record eight UNL faculty members have been named fellows of the American Association for the Advancement of Science, the world's largest general scientific society. The new AAAS fellows are David Berkowitz, Scott Gardner, Ronnie Green, Andrzej Rajca, Mark Riley, Daniel Schachtman, Janos Zempleni and Tim Zhang.

The Innovator of the Year award was presented to Paul Blum, professor of biological sciences, for advancing novel research into significant commercial utilization. Blum’s innovations make ethanol less expensive to produce and help progress hydrogen as a clean energy source.

Four emerging UNL scholars have joined the ranks of Nobel Prize winners and a Google co-founder by earning the longest-running fellowship available to U.S. graduate students. The scholars — (from left) Tasneem Bouzid, Abigail Riemer, William Jamieson and Tyler Corey — each received National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellowships.
