Marie-Claire Chelini was awarded the Harold Winfred Manter Prize at the annual BGSA Spring Research Symposium on April 24, 2015.
The Harold Winfred Manter Prize Fund was established on January 20, 1967. The founding donor received his Masters in Zoology from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in 1955. He went on to receive his doctorate here in 1958.
The purpose behind establishing this fund is to recognize the illustrious career of Professor Harold Winfred Manter, who for forty years served as Professor of Zoology at the University of Nebraska and whose personal contributions to the literature of parasitology are numerous and outstanding, and to encourage and recognize publicly superior research performed by graduate students in the field of zoology.
Marie-Claire Chelini is pursuing a Ph.D. in Biological Sciences. She researches with Eileen Hebets on the evolution of sexual size dimorphism in spiders. Marie-Claire was awarded a prestigious Chancellor’s Fellowship and the Maude Hammond Fling Fellowship. She has already published 7 papers with a few more in the pipeline, she has gotten rave reviews as a teaching assistant, and her record of achievement shows high levels of determination and initiative.
This prize comes with a cash award of $1,500 and formal recognition on a Manter Prize Plaque.
