A study co-authored by UNL's Sabrina Russo and published in Nature reports that trees — contrary to long-held misconceptions — never stop growing during their lifespans. In fact, as trees age, growth rates accelerate, even after they've reached massive sizes.

New study reveals how hummingbirds evolved to fly at high altitude

Research led by Jay Storz, an evolutionary biologist, has uncovered how species of hummingbirds have evolved the capacity to flourish at very high altitudes. The study, published Dec. 2 in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences Early Edition, examined 63 hummingbird species native to different elevations in the Andes Mountains.

$8M renovation of Brace Labs begins

A renovation of Brace Labs is converting one of UNL’s oldest buildings into a center for innovative teaching. The $8 million project will bring the 107-year-old building into compliance with modern building/accessibility codes, upgrade the heating/cooling system, and create teaching spaces that allow faculty to incorporate technology into classroom lessons.
